friday finds

well, nashville shopping got the best of us today... we came home with a full trunk and an empty wallet. but, back to school clothing shopping is done! and mom said i'm not allowed to get anything for a good while... going to have to practice some self control! we had the most perfect mother-daughter day: eating lunch at our favorite brentwood spot, the puffy muffin, and then stopping by LEONA on 12 south (i can't seem to stay away) and then going to the the mall at green hills! with lots of coffee (probably too much) we powered through and had quite the successful day! see all my friday finds below!

favorite fall trends

the fact that i applied for graduation yesterday freaks. me. out. where did the time go? i remember moving into homey little humes and the struggles and triumphs that came with my freshman year as if it were yesterday. and now, i am a week away from moving into my new apartment for my senior year. time really does fly by...

on another note, if you have been to any retail store lately, i'm sure you have seen new fall items hanging on the racks! i know it is still hot as H-E-double-hockey-sticks out and hard to think about sweaters and scarves and boots, but i am dreaming up fall outfits! there are some great trends this fall season that i am obsessing over and can't wait to incorporate into my closet.
  • wide-leg pants: skinnies are still in style, but a great wide-leg will be nice this fall to loosen things up a bit. they are free and easy and ultra-flattering. i plan on tucking my high-waist styles into a fitted top such as a crew neck sweater and then pairing them with chunk heeled shoes.
  • midi-skirts: like with the wide-leg pants, midi-skirts are easy and free. they are back in style, with ideal lengths ranging from below the knee to mid calf. since they cover more leg, i may try pairing a high waisted one with a crop top or sleeveless blouse, or keep it classic with a button-down
  • track pants: fall seems to be all about letting loose. track pants offer an elastic waist (hello new favorite) and are easy to dress up or down. cute paired with tennies or pumps, i plan on wearing mine just about everywhere with either a simple tee or a silk top!
  • print on print: popular for a few seasons now, print and print is better than ever this fall. from matching separates to contrasting prints paired together, the fashion world is embracing prints for fall in chic and modern ways.
  • capes and wrap coats: outerwear was all over the runway, with capes and wrap coats making many appearances. i have my eye on a few capes that are great fall transition pieces and am ahead of the game because i have a great camel-colored wrap coat in my closet!
  • fur and animal prints: as always with fall ready to wear, fur was present. i personally love fur, especially fur outerwear (you may have noticed my rabbit fur vest from past OOTDs). don't skimp and buy cheap fur though! make it an investment piece or find really good-looking faux fur! animal prints were also in full force. i love leopard print so i can't wait to add more of it to my wardrobe!
happy shopping y'all!

boca loca + the vacationers + fro-yo

better late than never is the saying right? last week i ate supper at boca loca in hillsboro village with a friend and just realized i never posted my rants and/or raves about it! i also finished a book this past weekend that i wanted to tell y'all about!
  • boca loca cantina and taco factory: located in hillsboro village next to cabana, boca loca is where i met one of my friends for supper last week. completely open air and with high-top tables, the restaurant has a cantina-like feel. on the menu were various kinds of authentic tacos as well as salads, house favorites and so many tequila choices that they span the entire length of the menu. we both ordered the zucchini salad and i added shredded pork to mine. the salad was delicious and a great change from the usual mexican salad. my favorite thing at boca loca was definitely their salsa! it has a slightly smoky taste to it and i used it as a dressing on my salad! my friend also ordered a margarita from the happy hour menu which she said was excellent!
  • the vacationers by emma straub: i finally picked up this book after seeing it on multiple summer reading list and bestseller lists. taking place in mallorca, spain, the novel is about the secrets, joys and jealousies that come to surface over a family's two-week vacation. it shows how we build ourselves up and tear others down, as well as the unbreakable bond that is family. the book has both its funny and sad moments, is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. i recommend you pick it up to round off your summer reading list.
unfortunately, it seems i have caught a case of the summer cold. this is rare for me, as i don't get sick often, but i am really feeling subpar! with a congested head and a scratchy throat, the only thing that sounds good to me is some frozen yogurt! and, since we have a small frozen yogurt maker and enough blueberries for an army, i decided to make some blueberry fro-yo! with a waffle cone bowl and topped with more berries, i can't think of a better way to cure my summer cold!

blueberry frozen yogurt

3 cups plain fat-free greek yogurt
1/4 cup Splenda
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/4 cup milk
2 cups frozen blueberries, thawed slightly
  1. in a mixing bowl, stir together all ingredients except blueberries.
  2. pour mixture into ice cream maker. add in blueberries.
  3. turn on ice cream maker and allow to churn until mixture is frozen.
  4. scoop into freezer-safe container and freeze until ready to serve.
cool off with this healthy, summer treat! and don't forget to top with your favorite toppings!

saturday day + night OOTD

who says you can't change outfits twice in one day? today i am posting two of my favorite LEONA looks - one perfect for shopping around town and the other perfect for a night out.

i love this look because the top can be worn two ways. known as the millie dress, it can be worn as a tunic, which is how it is styled below, or as a dress with more of a drop waist. also, wear the top off-the-shoulder or normal! the pants feel like pajamas (but obviously don't look that way) and have gold button details you can see when you tuck a top in!

LEONA millie dress (nashville store exclusive), LEONA mercer pant, nine west heels, LEONA double chain bracelet

this saturday night outfit is so on-trend for fall. the drapey, flowy pants and top were all over the fall runways. wear the top tucked in or out of the garnet and black sponge print silk pants.

now you have your outfits - time to plan your saturday!
